Touch me. Let your presence pour through fingertips, suffusing the very cells of my body with your desire for me. I will become lost to the world in my submission to you. I will forget all things to come, and all that has been, my imprisonment in this tiny mind of separation ending in the ecstatic penetration of your desire exploding within me, until this trembling mass of feeling-flesh cannot resist any longer your need to possess me.

Finally,the one I have forever sought has come to me,and this love carries me beyond not only the world of time, it carries me finally away, away beyond all I have known, all I thought could be, away beyond my self. I am dying, dying mercifully into your all-consuming desire for me, and from this hour I am helplessly, eternally, yours.

***** What can be outside the embrace of Love? Can a living, genuine, radically free spirituality be constricted against the pulsing and vibrant scent of this embodied existence, and still claim to be spirituality at all?

According to Christian metaphysic, each of us as Soul has 'fallen from grace', but can this mean anything but that our existence here is the very result of grace, and thus proof of its existence? Has the Ever Shimmering One we commonly call 'God' made a horrible mistake?

There is no power in sexuality but the quality of Consciousness we bring to it.There is nothing it brings to us unless we begin in knowing that the lover belongs to God.Then, in each caress, every bead of sweat rolling down the spine, and in each groan emerging from being moved beyond the domain of words, we celebrate in humility the realization of every mystic lover the sweet, ecstatic cry of a genuine, living, and radically free spirituality: mahabud lillah: "God is the love, the lover, and the loved."

There are essentially three levels of sexuality of which we may taste. First, and by far most common: having sex.This occurs between beings who still sleep in the living dream of being mere bodies. Bodies groping for life, for satiation, for pleasure, for an escape from their common suffering. Having sex reinforces and perpetuates the ignorance and suffering of the egoic life. Resist it like the plague, for – like quicksand – it but sinks the soul into the morass of illusion. Second, and the hoped-for goal of many: making love. Here, we share in physical intimacy not merely with another body, but with a person, with a sense of another's being that transcends having sex. Here, caring begins to emerge, and the energies of the body and its passions begin to do what spirituality must come to do in the extreme: crack the heart open from its self-centered contraction.

All too often, making love leads to disappointment, for the soul – still too buried beneath the weight and grip of ego – yet mistakes another as a source of something it starves for: love. It tries at this level to use sexuality to manufacture the conditions it may have spontaneously touched in rare moment of intimacy.

The mind is still plagued with all that is yet unhealed, and thus projects its unconscious needs onto the lover, hoping -even requiring – that the lover fulfill the deep hunger for safety, love, acceptance, and an escape from suffering that is the pervasive thirst of ego. Here, we find the attempt to cultivate technique in the hope of making love appear for us.

Be vigilant during this vast stage of your journey of awakening. It is a razor's edge, holding the momentary tastes of enlightenment, and the imprisoning usurping of the body yet again in service of ego.

Chapter 10: The Spirit of Sex

Third, and the very rare province of sacred sexuality: praying love. Here, lovers come together not moved by seeking, or by need, but as the overflowing, innocent, spontaneous, and radically free effulgence which is the result of knowing that the lover belongs solely to God,and has been given as a free gift to us,so that one cannot hope for anything beyond this:that the body itself be a communication device whereby each breath, each touch, each movement of passion and power is a living prayer of gratitude for the presence of the Divine.The awakened Soul moves through the body to allow the Beloved One to be the one giving nurturance and fulfillment, and even the healing grace that a truly sacred sexuality may pour into the beloved one.

Settle for nothing less than this! Become the one first so purified in the alchemy of the Shimmering One's Fire that ego is a memory outgrown, and the body given freely to the purpose of the Holy Spirit: to share the miracle that ends time, the miracle of Love's Presence, in mad celebration of the radically free: mahabud lillah!

Sexuality is not apart from spirituality, and I challenge all views of celibacy as utterly false; mere ego-based judgments of the radiance of Creation. Indeed, a living spirituality is powerful in its fully lived passion, and neither denies nor fears the ecstasy, pleasure, and profound levels of communication and communion available, just as it does not refrain from risking the heart, nor from tears and sorrow, compassion and creativity.

Indeed, Creation is sexual, through and through. It extends itself by opening to penetration, and by penetrating the veils of limits, does it not? For me, the Lord,

my God,is a sensuous God, Who clearly loves to seduce with overwhelming Beauty, and reveal itself as a silky red wine pouring slowly through a human throat.And an awakened being is one radically free in divine enjoyment of his or her very existence as the presence of sexuality itself: aliveness, passion, and exactly what the heart of true spirituality and sexuality is: pure Presence, in denial and fear of nothing.

When you come to know that the beloved, the lover, and the love, are but the holy trinity of God's appearance, you will know the secret of the radically free,and sexuality and spirituality will be but One Divine Taste,meeting with no resistance born of the conflicts of the egoic mind.

This is the cry of the Soul to God, and the very energy of sexual­ity suffused in enlightenment, seeing the Beloved One shining through the lover, and longing to give only God to the lover: the act of Praying Love.
